Boat Raffle: Quote for boat for 2008 MIFSG Boat Raffle tabled. A Blue Fin “Mangrove Jack” (Sidewinder option) package at $17,600.00 was passed around for comment. The boat package is worth $21,590.00 and includes Bimney cover, Minn Kota electric motor, Hummingbird Sounder, safety gear and trailer. Last years Boat Raffle raised $20,331.00. Steve Jeffery commented that shade would be needed for this year’s sale of tickets if we were to go ahead. Steve also said that a whole day of selling tickets was too long. Russell Corrigan agreed and gave a commitment to organise the selling of tickets so as many members as possible assist in this fundraiser to alleviate the stress on individuals. Russell asked Steve to follow up with a quote for shade, Steve agreed. George moved a motion that “The Boat Raffle be recognised as a “stand alone” fundraiser and have its own budget” a figure of $20,000.00 was put forward for this years boat budget with future budgets to be determined by future profits. The budget covers the cost of the boat and expenses such as insurance, registration, ticket making costs and advertising. Russell Corrigan seconded the motion. All in favour, none against. Motion passed.

George also moved that “The $17,600.00 Blue Fin boat be ordered for the 2008 MIFSG Boat Raffle” Steve Farnsworth seconded the motion. All in favour, none against. Motion passed.
Steve Jeffery to follow up shade for Boat Raffle ticket sellers.

Secretary to place an order for the boat from Atlas Superstore
Membership/Recruitment: Focus on membership again this year. The more members we have the better opportunities there are to raise interested persons for social fishing comps, assistance with Angler Education and fundraising activities. The executive needs a lot of help to advance the MIFSG and more help from members is needed. One idea is to have sausage sizzles while we sell Boat Raffle tickets and have membership forms available. Steve Jeffery mentioned the need for clamps in the money tins to prevent cash from being blown out during ticket sales. Vivian to F/U with cash tin clamps.
Year-round Fishing Comp: Ross Thinee was not available to pass in information about the concept. Mike Poppell will remind Ross about bringing the info to a meeting. Mike to F/U
Supporting Clubs Supporting Communities Report: Report for “Sign on Day” due before next meeting. Queensland Health to receive report late February early March. Helen Burns to F/U
Hatchery Project: Business Plan documentation bought together with help from the North Queensland Area Consultative Committee. Quote from Nova Consultants for $704.00 to rework, reword and sharpen plan. George explained that MIFSG must make certain commitments to Hatchery Project that are deemed “in kind” contributions that attract funding from the Federal Government with 40% of the commitment coming back as funding. George explained that the Business Plan included a Management Plan that set out the direction of the maintenance and management of the project. This includes the financial commitment required to maintain the project. George that a member move “MIFSG pay Nova Consultants $704.00 to produce Business Plan for Hatchery Project” Russell Corrigan moved the motion, Steve Farnsworth seconded the motion. All in favour, none against. Motion passed. Secretary will contact Nova to produce our Hatchery Project Business Plan.
RFEP Grant: The DPI&F Recreational Fishing Enhancement Program grant for 2007/2008 received. $12,000.00 banked for the purchase of fingerlings for the 2007/2008 year. In addition to the $5000.00 MIFSG receive for the RFEP plus $2000.00 to maintain our Breeding Program, MIFSG has received $5000.00 for the “Living the Queensland Lifestyle” policy initiative from the State Government. -
Fingerlings 2008: NO BARRA from Karumba. Over the many years that MIFSG have been dealing with GBRA, the wet season always affects the breeding and delivery of Gulf Strain Barramundi. Due to flooding in early 2008 and poor communication MIFSG will not receive Barramundi fingerlings from Karumba this year. MIFSG had asked for the later Barra spawns to be made available because our late wet season topped up our dams in February/March. George has asked GBRA for more precise and up to date information about any situation in Karumba to keep MIFSG in the loop.

A quote for $15,000.00 worth of Sooty Grunter was tabled. The quote was from Betta Barra Tropical Fish Hatchery on the Atherton Tablelands. This quote was for 13,000.00 Sooty Grunter and was the only response from registered hatcheries that could deliver 50mm Sooty Grunter to Mount Isa. These 50mm Sooty Grunter are tank reared and slow growing, which contributes to the price of the fish. Also transport costs are in the order of $3,800.00. The 50mm Sooty Grunter were sought out because the low lake levels will mean these fish will need to be stocked at a size that will allow them to have a better chance of survival. Russell Corrigan moved that “the Betta Barra Sooty Grunter quote for $15,000.0 be accepted” Sid Lane seconded the motion. All in favour, none against. Motion passed.
Secretary to place order for the Sooty Grunter.
“Thank You” to MIFSG Members: Thanks to Mike Poppell for making the stands for our sound system. Thanks also to Steve Jeffery for acquiring a laptop for the MIFSG Thanks Mike and Steve
Other General Business Clean up Australia Day: Clean up Australia Day is the 2nd March 2008. Secretary will ask members to participate in the cleanup of the area between the back boat ramps at Lake Moondarra to the Transport Bay boat ramps.

Reflectors for Boat Ramp: Trevor Kidd raised the point that the main boat ramp is difficult to see in the dark. Trevor suggested reflective signs at the top of the main boat ramp would allow safer landing at the ramps. Secretary to write to Mount Isa Water to ask for reflective signs to be placed at top of main boat ramp.

Rules for Night Boating: Steve Farnsworth asked for clarification of rules from Mount Isa Water for boating on Lake Moondarra at night.

Fundraising Ideas: A number of fundraising ideas were talked about, including toad races. The Fishing Classic and Boat Raffle are our major fundraisers so far and all effort should be placed in those areas for members to assist with. We need all the help we can get from our members on fundraising.
Secretary to follow up Clean-up Australia Day, Rules for Night Boating and Reflectors for boat ramp.
