With Lake Moondarra filling to capacity due to exceptional rains over the wet season period, a large number of Barramundi took a leap of faith. While the dam spillway runs, Barramundi instinctively feel the urge to escape the confines of our dam and attempt to make it to salt water, some 500 KM north to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Unfortunately most will never make it that far, most get caught up in fences and trees while the river flows through properties and boundary fences. Other set up camp in long waterholes not too far from where they escaped, caught as the water receded to create mini lagoons, where the Barra happily reside while bait and water is plentiful.
