This week we have our first story from one of our readers. I have had the pleasure of fishing with Dave not too long ago and you can tell by this story that he knows his stuff. I admire all fishos that catch fish like this on lures. Well done Dave and thanks for a great story.

“It began last Thursday, our first day in Karumba.  With an early start on the water we scored a good session of approx 30 Blue Nose Salmon just out from the Bynoe River mouth. That was great fun in itself! Then Friday morning saw us up before first light and casting from the bank at a secret "rock bar". This spot produced over 40 "Barra" over the next two days ranging from 50cm, which were immediately returned to the water, up to the 110cm specimen shown in the attached photo.

This was very surprising because the water temperature was a cool 22 degrees. The time of the tide did not seem to deter the barra from feeding as long as we spent the last few hours of light fishing, with the better times of day being the very early hours of the morning. The large barra was caught early morning and was the third keeper in a row that morning. The trusty B52 lure combined with 60lb leader to 30lb braid did the job,  but of course any faults in tackle quality would have been identified very quickly by yours truly. The retrieve used to entice all of the 40 barra was a quick short jerk followed by a pause then the same again with the speed being varied each cast. This was certainly another successful and fun trip to add to the collection.”
