With Barra and other fish species being caught and with water levels envied by southerners, Lake Moondarra is the place to be. As a family we have been enjoying early morning BBQ breakfasts at the dam on Sunday mornings and soaking up the early morning scenery and enjoying the great outdoors of the northwest.
The park area is well kept and there is a lot of room for the children to play and even spots to throw in a line off the bank. If you are lucky enough you can start your health kick off by watching all the local athletes doing their thing swimming, running, cycling, skiing and kayaking. At this stage I have resisted the urge to yell at these finely tuned sports people and let them know that Fishing is a sport too you know.
But all jokes aside, it is great to see so many people from all walks of life using Lake Moondarra and its facilities. So many people I have met in the past 12 months have begun their first adventures into a water sport out here. With this in mind it is great to see total strangers helping each other at boat ramps and seeing people working together in a safe manner. I have spent some time accessing boat ramps on the east coast and have seen some nasty things happen just because one person thinks that they have a claim on the whole boat ramp or are too impatient to wait their turn or to assist someone else in need.
Now being a self confessed fisho I am not supposed to befriend those people from the other side (you know, ski people). But you know I have spent a day at the ski club skiing and mixing with these sportspeople and I had no idea as to how normal they really are, and into their sport for fun and recreation just as we fishos are. Let’s hope that we can all consider each others recreational needs and look after the lake and each other’s safety as we all use this great facility.
So head out early to Lake Moondarra for brekky some time. Every time we brave the cooler weather and forgo the sleep-in, we always make comment that we should do it more often, as our Lake Moondarra is really quite spectacular this time of year.
