"Isa Fish" #1 June 2009

Well it has started! The Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group (MIFSG) has started work on the construction of their Hatchery and Display Centre behind Outback At Isa & Riversleigh Fossil Centre. Last Sunday saw us moving the first sod and levelling the soil ready for the water tanks to be put in place. The amount of time and effort that George Fortune and his family have given to Mount Isa community to make this happen, is truly commendable. On behalf of all the members of MIFSG, I take the time now to say “Thankyou” to George and all his family for their tireless voluntary efforts over the last several years.  Perhaps you may also like to take the time to thank the members of this family and have a yarn with them about the history they have with the club.

No community organisation these days can operate without countless hours of voluntary blood, sweat and tears, and acknowledgement must also be given to the 2009 MIFSG executives.  Behind the scenes they are also doing a great job and the fruits of everyone’s labour will start to trickle out into the community in the coming months.

I still have not heard of anyone catching Barra in the lake. It seems that we have more of a chance of Manly having a win in the NRL than we have of catching that all mighty Barra. Speaking about Manly, I have a joke for you.

What is the difference between watching your lawn grow and watching Manly get two wins in a row? At least you know that your lawn will grow.

By the way “GO QUEENSLAND” by 16 at least.

We would like to thank all of the people who sent in photos for the Fish of the Month for May, and thanks to Rohan for the stories. We are now looking for a winner for June.  I am hearing of some big fish being landed in Karumba and some trips to Sweers for some, so I hope to see some more photos soon.
