Champion Senior Angler

Our resident writer, Peter Fricke, has declined the position of Vice President of the MIFSG to defend his title as Champion Senior Angler at the 2009 Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic. The Champion Senior Angler is considered the most prestigious award at the annual fishing classic because it tests the angler’s true ability. The prestige comes from the fact that a range of angling techniques have to be employed to land all six species and the skill involved is above the range of the average angler.

Incidentally, the word “angler” is used because over half of the names on the perpetual trophy are females and the word “fisherman” would not be appropriate. The Champion Senior Angler targets all six species available in Lake Moondarra in an attempt to land three of each species. The angler is given points for each fish caught according to weight and number of fish caught. The highest points tally at the end of the competition will take home a nice trophy and a fridge freezer valued at $1,500.00 donated by Tool’N’Tackle. The Champion Senior Angler will also have their name placed on the perpetual trophy which is displayed at Tool’N’Tackle. Sounds easy?

For ten years no one has ever weighed in three fish of all six species. For the ordinary angler, over half of the categories have fabulous prizes for people who weigh in any legal sized fish, for example, $1000.00 for the Overall Mystery Weight Senior and $500.00 for the Overall Mystery Weight Junior. With plenty of Mystery Weight and lucky nomination prizes for seniors and juniors, males and females any person who weighs in a legal sized fish has a chance at a prize. Get a nomination form from Atlas Superstore, Outback at Isa or Tool’N’Tackle to check out the species list and prizes.
