Fantastic Female Fisho’s
Females have a knack for fishing, be it social or competitive. Mum got me into fishing during one of many family trips down the Leichhardt and other Gulf rivers. Between mum and my sisters the boys had to put in long days to match the girls.
My daughter regularly out fishes myself and my sons and makes up for my wife who is not interested in fishing but happily supports my fish stocking habits. The females do very well at the annual fishing classic but are not well represented in nominations. This may be due to the possibility that the girls don’t want to outfish the boys and would rather let them have their glory than put up with a sooky second place getter.
Female competitors at the fishing classic are targeted by MIFSG because of their low representation at the competition, MIFSG are always looking for incentives for the girls to get involved. From more female friendly prizes to a better social and entertaining atmosphere at the competition, the ladies are encouraged to relax and enjoy the old favourites like the yabby races and casting comp when they have a break from fishing. These events keep the kids busy while mum sits down for a cool drink and catches up with friends. This year there will be a lot more ladies and girls at the fishing classic for the great prizes available and because $5 from every senior female nomination will be going to the Mount Isa and North Queensland Breast Cancer Support Group.
MIFSG are pleased to have community groups like RFDS, Mount Isa Scouts and the Breast Cancer Support Group on board to enjoy the weekend. Come along to the Pink Ribbon Breakfast at the Blackrock competition site from 6am Saturday the 24th of October.
MIFSG is a non-profit organisation that stocks fish in local dams for the benefit of the community
